SGM Publishing is a small independent publishing business wholly owned and run by the proprietor, Stephen G. Miles.  Established in 2003, it is now operated from an address in Milton Keynes; two distributors are used, one of whom serves specifically the book trade on and around Britain’s inland waterways.

 

All proof-reading is handled in-house, by the proprietor and a group of willing voluntary book-worms; editing is similarly done in-house.  An ex-professional photographer, the proprietor also handles most of the photography for jacket illustrations.  The technical areas of publication, page-setting, production and printing are handled by Amherst Publishing Ltd of Otford, Kent.

 

The current list relies heavily on the writing of local author Geoffrey Lewis, with eight of his novels presently available, and more scheduled for the coming years.  Also in hand is a series of books recalling the working days of Britain’s canals, written by those who worked on the boats towards the end of the carrying era.

 

The imprint of SGM Publishing is registered with the International Standard Book Numbering Agency, with its own specific prefixes.  Listed on Bookdata, any SGM book can be ordered through any bookshop by quoting the ISBN, or the author and title.  They are available to the retail book trade from Gardners Books of Eastbourne, or direct from the relevant distributor.
